MATH OBJECTIVES

Introduction

Math is not a scatter-brained activity! As God is logical and created man to be logical, the brain and soul experience a sense of agitation when encountering disorder. Math, therefore, must be presented with a well thought out method.

Additionally, many math textbooks do not help a student learn a concept well before proceeding on to the next concept. This causes many children to fall behind and give up on math related careers, which God may have originally ordained for them.

(According to a 2011 report by ACT Inc. testing, 55% of the U.S. high school graduates who took the ACT test were not prepared for college level math-WSJ: 11-9-11. Additionally, 15-year-old American students ranked 25th when an international math exam was given to their peers in 34 developed countries. This equates to 24 other countries better educating their students in math than in American-WSJ: 11-29-11.)

Biblical Perspective

Math is a study of God’s order. Discovering and applying God’s mathematical order to life is an important activity for every individual. Math is necessary skill for many areas of study, life, and finances, which mankind can benefit from when used responsibly according to Biblical principles.

The study of math also helps students to understand the magnitude of God’s intelligence. A student who gains this knowledge is better able to trust in His wisdom and guidance.

Method

Math is more understandable when carefully taught. Mrs. Nash's math textbooks are successful at teaching because they:

  • develop strong calculation skills.
  • help a student focus and concentrate.
  • introduce new math concepts in a careful process.
  • apply to everyday life.
  • develop mastery by practice.
  • enhance memory and accuracy.
  • are Bible-honoring.
  • reinforce Godly learning and living.

SCIENCE OBJECTIVES

Introduction

Today’s science presents students with many types of study, because scientific knowledge has grown tremendously over the last two centuries. This presents a challenge to prepare students adequately for high school science where they, for the first time, must study a whole year of chemistry, physics, or biology.

Mrs. Nash's middle school science textbook/workbook combinations prepare students not only to feel more at ease with these courses, but also to gain the necessary skills and knowledge for high school science studies. Additionally, her courses are preparatory for careers in many fields, such as engineering, biotechnology, medicine, psychology, chemistry, and physics.

(According to a 2011 report by ACT Inc. testing, 70% of the U.S. high school graduates who took the ACT test were not prepared for college level science. WSJ: 11-9-11)

Biblical Perspective

Science is the study of God’s creation, which He set in motion to function as He ordained and continues to ordain. Therefore, all science studies must help students become better acquainted with God, His ways, and His great mind. They must reveal God's hand and wisdom in all details of the universe. They must help students to come to a deeper understanding of who God is and why science must bow to His majesty. Students must learn to search through Him for all discoveries by asking questions and seeking His answers.

Science must teach students how to incorporate and apply Bible truth to their life and decisions. Science must teach the application of Bible truth and values to all scientific study as well as how Bible verses reveal foundational scientific concepts.

Method

Science is more understandable when carefully taught. Mrs. Nash's science courses are successful at teaching because they:

  • are logical and systematic.
  • teach for understanding and comprehesion.
  • build a foundation for each science concept.
  • focus and clarify science relationships.
  • engage the student.
  • develop mastery by practice.
  • are Bible-honoring.
  • reinforce God's dominion over all.
