MATH

GRADESMART CURRICULA
K 1

Kindergarten

Getting started in teaching your student math for the first time can seem overwhelming for some or a great adventure for others. Whatever your perspective, this consumable textbook has all that you need to get your student off to a great start!

Attractive artwork, easy-to-understand instructions, and adequate spacing make this textbook tailored to your student's beginning abilities. The textbook is interactive with lots of coloring opportunities to focus your student by capturing his/her attention as he/she learns the meatier aspects of math. Each day your student will complete fun pages of learning activities that integrate several learning skills in each session. By working sequentially through the entire book, your student will be able to master all of the required math skills that are mandated by state education departments.

Each page contains a variety of activities, such as writing, reading, counting, and coloring skills that are developed while your student learns to recognize and write the numbers 1-20, as well as their names. Phonics-based, short sentences with number words are inserted periodically for your student to practice reading and for you to gain perspective of his/her growing accomplishments. Next, your student moves on to exercises that include: telling how many, matching objects to numbers, counting groups of objects, and identifying objects in groups.

After mastering number recognition, your student will continue on to learning about number order. Number order will help your student with sequencing, as well as with what comes before, after, and in between. This skill leads to being able to discern which number is most or least in a group of numbers, as well as which numbers are the same or different.

Learning about shapes is also an important part of a student's math experience. Your student will learn to identify shapes by how they are constructed. He or she will learn how to count shapes, sort shapes, and write the words for shapes. In addition, there are plenty of opportunities to color and draw shapes throughout the book.

Putting numbers and shapes together naturally prepares your student for the next unit of learning that involves the telling of time. Your student will learn to recognize and tell time on both standard and digital clocks. The study of time includes minutes, quarter hours, half hours, hours, and identification of time before and after a preselected time.

Finally, your student will learn to recognize and know the value of our American monetary coins. Your student will increase his/her counting and sorting skills by working with this currency. When your student closes the last page of this consumable textbook, he or she will be well prepared for the next grade.

Your student will consume this textbook with pleasure as the many pictures and activities delight the learning process and ease mastery. The textbook includes a daily lesson plan as well as teacher's instructions with daily manipulative and flash card exercises. Flash cards and manipulatives are included.
