GRADING!

Grading is best accomplished when you have a good yearly plan set up and recorded. Don't leave this planning until the school year, however, when you can easily get behind or overwhelmed! Summer provides the best time to get organized and will give you more time later for teaching and grading.

Start by making a basic general plan. Buy all of your textbooks and supplies; then with the books in front of you, work on the day-by-day assignments for each subject and each student. This process can be easily accomplished by using our convenient HOME SCHOOL DAILY PLANNER! This planner has ample space for setting up a whole year of work, plus sections on how to grade which are detailed and specific to subject and type of school work.

HOW DO YOU GRADE?

Our Daily Planner teaches you not only how to grade all types of subjects with tests, quizzes, and homework assignments, but also how to record those grades and determine semester, quarter, or yearly grades. Additionally, many of our textbooks contain detailed grading charts for grading Book Reports, Lab Reports, History Reports, Essays and Research Reports, and Creative Writing. These courses may be viewed at our SCIENCE page and our WRITING page.

Once you learn how to grade, a few extra tips will make your year run smoothly.

GRADING TIPS

1. Prepare a set of three boxes (per student if you desire) labeled: Turn In, Redo, and File.
These boxes will organize your grading process and will also remind a forgetful student what to do with an assignment.
2. For grades K-2, grade your student's work and use a system of stickers, awards, or little drawings, such as smiley faces, stars, etc., on each assignment.
3. For grades 3-12, grade your student's work and write the grade on the top of each paper or assignment so that your student understands whether learning and some level of mastery occurred, or whether practice and improvement are needed.
4. The best way to learn is to have your student correct all mistakes and redo them again, even though the assignment is already graded.
5. Keep up with grading daily.
6. When the time comes for final grades, tally them on a weekend, in an evening, or during the summer.
7. Prepare a report card for each student. (Our Daily Planner contains two styles of report cards for all grading situations.)
8. For each student, keep a
yearly report card file or a master file with all of the yearly report cards.
9. When the time comes for college or other type of post high school training, you will have all of your records ready and in one place to prepare a formal transcript.
