GETTING STARTED

Getting READY for a new home school year is always an exciting event! Checking to make sure you have all of your curricula is the first place to begin. Each state has guidelines about what subjects should be taught for each grade level, as well as information about the content required for those subjects. Your local home school organization may have this information for you, or you can contact your state education department.

From these guidelines you can determine what home school curricula to purchase. Once each subject is obtained, review the material to determine what other supplies will be necessary that you don't already have. These supplies may include new maps, lab equipment, notebooks, pencils, a new dictionary for a foreign language, etc.

Then begin to organize the year. You may accomplish this by using Resurrection Resources’ wonderful HOME SCHOOL DAILY PLANNER! It is chock-full of organizational pages with charts, calendars, note pages, logs, report cards, and even inspirational devotionals written by home school moms just like you.

With this planner you can then plan out each subject, one at a time, for the whole year. Don't forget to check the dates for biblical holidays and factor them into this layout. Time schedules can then be set up in the daily schedule chart, family rules in their chart, chores in their chart, and prayers can be started by recording them in the prayer journal.

When all of these things are SET, move on to the last step: decorating your home school space. Consider your space. Will you be home schooling at a kitchen table with a wall and counter, in a small spare bedroom, or a large room in your basement? No matter what size or shape your home school space is, set a theme to cheer it up.

You can use Resurrection Resources’ ART PACK (Nautical) to create a maritime theme. Lighthouses, boats, and other nautical items can be made from the easy-to-use templates in this pack and from the colors and sizes you choose. Once made, they can be affixed to the wall around your dry erase board, and you can hang up any posters or maps you will be referring to in the new year.

Lastly, set up your student's desk space with school supplies, books, globes, and lab equipment.

When these tasks are done, all that is left to do is wait for the first day of school when you'll be ready to GO!
